Meet The Mudds

If you haven’t already heard about The Mudds, they’re Jeep’s newest marketing campaign for the Commander. The Mudds are a fictitious family of five who will apparently get into all kinds of adventures in their “Mudd-Mobile”, a 2006 Jeep Commander. There’s Brock (the dad), Tracy (mom), and the kids: Summer, Victoria, and Clay. Victoria even has her own blog at Blogger.com...

The site features short bios on all five family members, but the descriptions are pretty cheesy and borderline cliche’, and there are no pictures of the family. Will they be Flash cartoons? Real actors staging photographs? Who knows. There is a picture of a man in a dirty “It’s a Mudds Thing” t-shirt standing with a little girl in one part of the site, but according to the character bios the Mudd kids are all middle-school age or older and the little girl in the photo is obviously early elementary school age, so I don’t think they’re any of the Mudd family.

The website is very flashy (pun intended) and looks more like a movie promotional site than anything else. It says they’re “coming this fall”, so it’s really not even clear what The Mudds will be. Considering it’s almost October though, I think we’ll find out soon.

humble beginnings

So now that I’ve got this nifty new blog, the question on everyone’s mind, ok, maybe just mine, seems to be what am I going to do with it. So what am I going to do with it? What should I do with it? I could just do it as a small personal blog and leave it as a footnote to Jeepin.com, or completely rework the whole site and use this as a content management system for a totally database-driven version of Jeepin’.

I’m not really keen on either of those options, so I’ll probably try to find some happy median, using this blog to suppliment the feature articles and press releases I post on Jeepin’—maybe talk about gadgets and gear and news that might not be “big” enough to warrant a full write-up. And the nice thing is I can blog from anywhere with a computer and an internet connection. I don’t have to be at home, at my desk, on my PC, with Dreamweaver fired up… and I definitely like that prospect. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Dreamweaver, but it would be nice to not be restricted to adding and editing content only when I’m at home. Hmm, maybe some type of web-based CMS is in Jeepin’s future…

my first blog

And so, after wasting a few hours trying to get this software to work under a different domain name (fantastico installed it under ‘jeepin.com’ and it’s going to run from ‘jeepin.net’), I finally got it up and running! Turns out it was just a simple config setting in the options table of the database…

What’s that mean? Well, that means this is my very first venture into the world of blogging… yep, now I too can babble on and on about totally pointless subjects. Aren’t you thrilled? I thought so.
