Leaf-sprung JKs?
UPDATE (4/2/07): I just got word from inside sources that these are indeed mil-spec vehicles. They’re equipped with a CRD and Dana 60 rear ends and leaf springs. Currently Egypt and Columbia are the only customers for these specific vehicles. “Ready for a rocket launcher or 60 caliber- your choice” haha!
“Muddy Paws” over on the GreatLakes4×4.com forum shot a few spy photos of some very odd Jeep test mules last week. Seeing JKs with manufacturer plates and CRD badges isn’t really anything out of the ordinary—CRD JKs are available overseas—but what sets these test mules apart is what’s going on with the rear suspension and frame rails. Apparently all three vehicles had extended rear frame rails and a spring-under leaf spring rear suspension!

According to the post about the photos two of the three vehicles were left-hand drive and one was right-hand drive, and all three had CRD badges. One of the vehicles was a 2-dr JK Unlimited body with a hard top, further adding to the stangeness.
So what are these test mules for? Well, I don’t know, but I’ve sent out some feelers to try and find out. As much as I’d like to hope think they’re Gladiator test mules, it’s probably more likely that they’re test mules for military models for use overseas and in the Middle East.
