I’ll take one. When do they roll out?
A torquey, fuel-efficient diesel? 35-inch tires? Locking diffs? I think I’m in love…
Please Please PLEASE
I will pay the $35,000 today for one of these right now!
Will AEV offer a CRD conversion???? And a sweet hood like this one?
The hood is available, as is the front bumper. I’m sure they’ll be doing CRD conversions too.
I emailed them directly and they said they had no plans to build the CRD.
I love the bumpers, I love the painted roof. I love the whole thing. Offer a V8 and I wont have to build one. I dont like the CRD! (too pricey to up keep and fill up) Keep Up the great work! It really shows that you love Jeeps too.
I would order one today if they were available. The 3.8L is too anemic for me. I will keep my TJ until Jeep decides to become serious with a power plant in the JK.
It is availeble in Europe, it’s a 2.8 crd…
CRD too anemic??? It has more torque than the Hemi! For serious crawling and offroad work, diesel’s are the bomb.
he was talking about the 3.8 v-6… and yes.. it sux. my built 4.0 ZJ which probably weighs 1/3 more, can keep up with my unlimited rubicon….
a note…
in my experience, deisels make much more heat than gas engines do. mine is currently having an major issue with overheating… in 90 degree south GA weather. idling…. OR driving. You never know.
wonder how much
if at allthat AEV hood would help.Looks like Daimler is finally realizing they can tap into the defender market in the US and abroad. I would take this and a Defender 110. both diesel and both great Offraoding.
I would buy one of the CRDs in a second if it was offered. I heard a rumor that it may be offered in the states in 2008 or 2009. I sure hope so…. I’ll be the first one in line here in texas if it is offered.
Wrangler with a diesel is the perfect marriage….better fuel economy with awesome torque..I want one so bad I can taste it! They sell one in the UK, why not here?

I’ve heard the minivan V6 they have in the current Jeep does not have great power, and the the inline 4 was much better. What have you guys heard?
Mike, the reason a CRD JK isn’t sold here in the US right now is due to the new diesel emissions requirements. This is also what killed the CRD KJ/Liberty (which basically used the same 2.8L CRD that is used in export JKs).
As far as the ‘minivan’ V6 in the JKs goes, it’s not that bad of a motor but it is somewhat underpowered IMHO. I think most folks would agree that the old 4.0L straight-6 was a better motor, but going to the 3.8L gave Chrysler some flexibility and cost-cutting in production vs keeping around a motor that’s only used a relatively low volume vehicle. The shorter V6 also gave them more flexibility in lowering the hood line and meeting crash test regs (that’s part of why there’s a huge gap in front of the motor). The 4.0L I6 was a great motor, but it was very long, and very heavy.
Thanks Jason,
Do you think we will ever see a diesel in future wranglers here in the US?
Mike
Hard to say… I know it’ll be getting one of the new Phoenix gas engines by 2010, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe for a diesel. With the ‘new owners’ it’s really anyone’s guess now, but I’ve yet to heard even a rumor of a CRD state-side.
I know there’s demand, and that they’d sell every single one they could put out, and it’d probably help their CAFE numbers too, but despite all that I just don’t know that they’d actually do it. Chrysler’s had a bad habit of missing (or at best under-estimating) the obvious slam-dunks when it comes to the Jeep brand…
Thanks…..what’s the phoenix gas engine?

Can someone tell me where i would find that front bumper in the u.s.?
Kevin, it’s by AEV Conversions. Runs about $1249.

Lve the Bars and Turbo Diesels are great for offroad.
I live in Australia we have the CRD unlimited but not in a Rubicon Pushing to get it. This vehicle looks great and would suit my needs.
Really do not understand what is keeping Chrysler from putting CRD into Jeep Wrangler/Rubicon family; as usual they will miss the boat!
I am not clear. Will there be a diesel wrangler coming out? If so, where (NY) and when? I have to upgrade soon, and I would buy a diesel today if it was available.
No, Chrysler has not said it’s got any plans to release a diesel JK in the US. There are a few companies doing custom conversions though, along with HEMI engine swaps.
I go to Italy often, and I see Jeeps in diesel. Why not here (NY)?
Makes no sense with gas going as high as it is.
You guys haven’t figured the diesel thing out yet. It simple…Oil companies are used to selling a certain quota of gas, if the us allows small diesels on a very large scale, then that is more diesel usage, yes, but less profit for them (more MPG). Enter the PAC’s political action commitees and lobyists….BINGO, congress passes the prohibitive law, hence no diesels, hence, no loss of gasoline volume sales for the oil company! Gotta love the politicians….follow the money boys, follow the money.
