Jeep JK Wrangler sets world altitude record.

Jeep JK Wrangler World Altitude Record

Not only has the new Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited set new sales records for Wranglers, but it’s also recently set a new Guiness World record for highest altitude in a four-wheeled vehicle! Over the course of five days in early March 2007, a team of adventurers from Germany’s Extrem Events piloted two relatively stock Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimiteds to the rim of Ojos del Salado in Chile. Ojos del Salado is the highest volcano in the world and the second highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere.

The intrepid explorers piloted their Jeep vehicles up the volcano range to an altitude of 21,804 feet, braving hurricane-force winds, glacier fields, deep silt beds, razor-sharp ice and snow outcroppings, and temperatures of minus 22*F to set the new world record. And what did they do once they broke the world record? They posted a JEEP PARKING ONLY sign of course!

Matthias Jeschke, the expedition’s leader, kept a journal of the event which you can read here (if the site changes to German, just click the British flag at the top right of the page to get it in English). Jeschke’s site also has more details about the vehicles and route, as well as more photos from the trip. You can also check out more photos and a day-by-day account of the expedition in this thread on NAXJA (North American XJ Association). Watch for a full press release about the event on Jeepin.com soon.
