Why damn son? You worked at a body shop, that probably doesn't sound like much to you for paint. I won't be going overboard with it. The body is pretty damn good, a couple spots will get glass filled in, the corner guards will be ~$300, not sure how crazy I'll go with tube fenders/flares, etc. I figure paint will probably cost a couple hundred, and I imagine I'll have to buy beer, food, and gas when your mangy asss comes over to spray it for me.

With a double tri 4 link between those frame rails I don't see much dumping going on. Duals aren't gonna be worth the trouble it'd take to fit them. Exhaust routing will be the last step. I plan out the back, but I expect it to exit out the rear wheelwell area.....we'll see. No matter what it will flow sufficiently and sound badasss. If I have the space I'll use the spare Flowmaster 40 series I have laying around, and if that won't fit I'll pick up a Flowmaster Delta Force single chamber race muffler.

I simply implied unibodies are better, and if you use a unibody in the context that a full tube chassis is unibody, then yes, it is better.

xj's stock unibodies suck.

which is why i won't wheel another stock one...for long anyways. once i sleeve the rails with 4x3x3/16 channel, and add a full cage it will effectively be a tube buggy...almost

If you are adding a ton of body armor and not concerned with it being show car flat, we can kitty hair those dings easy enough and be on to primer, sealer and paint.

I will have to see if I can still pull some strings and get deals on paint, but even if I cant, shouldnt be too much.

And if done right (Wouldnt be hard AT ALL) A good burnt orange paint job would pwn kirkish's.

Burnt orange is awesome, but I think the problem is that kirkish already has it, whether the quality of work pwns his or not.

I am not talking quality of work, although that will play a very large roll in the pwnage, that is a very "dead" orange on the CYJ.

I'm not sure if the body armor I get will just be the rear corners or if it will go all the way to the door openings. We'll see. That'll be hammered black, so no biggy there, I'll probably just spray it with a Harbor Freight gun.

I'm not concerned about it being show car flat, and there are no dings to smooth out. It's a glass body. There are just a couple holes from stock tire carrier mount and such that I'll fill in, but that's no big deal. Body work will be minimal. I'll be building front tube fenders and depending which style I go with will either be hammered or body color. The hood, windshield frame, and grill may be the only stock steel pieces left. The grill will need some filler to hide the spot welds where the layers were bonded, but I plan to do that before you come to help.

I'll probably have the pieces separate so the seams can get painted easily....tub sitting on the frame, then hood, grill, windshield frame, and maybe fenders separate.

The quality of Kirkish's paint was fine for what I want, but I certainly won't complain if it's better.

Who gives a sh1t? I don't see how it's a problem since 99% of the people who'll see this thing never have and never will see Kyle's rig....and even if they did my Jeep will be way better. I loved this color before he ever painted his with it, am doing it in no way because he did it, and wish he hadn't done it so that would be one less other person with that color. Funny part is, the person who suggested that color to me (Tim) has never even seen Kyle's Jeep. I had somehow completely forgotten about burnt orange when I was brainstorming color choices.

What do you mean by "dead"? The shade or the finish? Unless you find something I like better, that color is the closest to what I want of any I've seen. Maybe a little more pearl to it would be cool, but I'm a big fan of that color.

What do you mean by "dead"? The shade or the finish? Unless you find something I like better, that color is the closest to what I want of any I've seen. Maybe a little more pearl to it would be cool, but I'm a big fan of that color.
pretty sure he means the finish. Severly orange peeled, and had very little 'depth' to it. Needed wet-sanding badly...very very badly.

Yes, Kyle and now many more people with new cars having it is the only negative I see to that color choice. Mine will be brighter and bigger than them, and the hammered black should set it off nicely.

Matt telling me I shouldn't is the best reason yet to use that color.

I don't think that'd look very good on yours, but it's your choice. I like the black and blue combo you've got now quite a bit. I seriously considered either bright or dark blue, but I want something that stands out a bit more.....burnt orange is about the 'loudest' color I can think of without being ugly.

The transfer case and front axle housing are stock....I think parts of the front driveshaft might be too.

So far the front axle and Taurus fan are the only non-Jeep items going on the Scrambler......not too shabby. It's a shame no Jeeps ever came with a decent 60 front.
