Default 1994 Jeep XJ, longarms, 36's

Up for sale is my 1994 Jeep XJ. I bought it Fall of 2007 and started building it up. Looking for $2000 obo.

Drivetrain:
~185k miles
4.0L
AX-15
231
36" TSL's on 15"x8" Soft 8's, probably 40% tread. Plenty of life left if a tire groover was taken to them. They are old though, I got them on my first XJ, about 6 years ago.

Front Axle:

1981 Jeep Wagoneer Dana 44
4.10's
Lockrite
Stock diff cover
1.5x.25 DOM steering, 1/2 ton tie rod ends

Rear Axle:
1986 Jeep Cherokee AMC 20
4.10's
Welded diff
Aftermarket diff cover
U-bolt style yoke

Unibody mods:
From the stock LCA mounts back to the spring hanger is plated with 4"x6" rectangle cut in half to form 4"x3" channel. 1" holes drilled for rosette welds, and stitch welding along the top.

From the spring hanger back is plated with 3"x3" angle iron, which also doubles as the mount for the bumper/rear cross member. The bumper itself is 2"x4" rectangle with 2 weld on D-ring tabs. The bumper has been unpainted and the ends have been uncapped since I built it. You can see it here, picture from the trip to the first wheeling trip with the rig after the build

The floors were pretty much 100% replaced. IIRC, 14ga was used, and was bead rolled for strength where it was needed. Since the pics, the entire floor was herculined.
Before:

After:

2"x4" rectangle rockers replaced the stock ones. 4 mounts on each side, each is 1.5"x1.5" square tubing going from the rockers to the unibody rails. There is still a gap between where I cut out rust on the upper rockers to the rockers themselves. I never got around to filling that gap with sheet metal to attach the rockers to the door sills themselves. You can kinda see them in the pic

Front suspension:

XJ 4.5" lift springs
Custom built hidden 3 link + panhard front suspension. Lower links are 2.25"x.375" DOM, upper link and panhard bar are 1.5"x.250" DOM.
2.5" Currie Johnny Joints on the lower links, both ends
3/4" shank, 5/8" bolt heims on the upper link and panhard bar
Link/transmission cross member built out of 2"x6" rectangle. Lower link brackets made from 3"x3" square, upper link/panhard brackets made from 2"x6" rectangle. Custom transmission mount incorporated using a bushing.
Shocks are the standard issue shocks that come with XJ lifts. I believe the ones on the Jeep currently are Ranchos.

Full bump:

Rear suspension:
4.5" XJ lift springs with, IIRC, the 3rd leaf removed. The shackles were replaced with slider boxes. Same as these:

When I was assembling them, I welded them crooked by mistake so they bind. I have another set that will be included, just need to be assembled and put on the rig. When working properly, they work very very well.

Body:
This is the part of this deal that sucks a little bit. The body on this XJ is pretty much useless. I got into some trees coming off of a bad bounce from a tree root on a hill climb my first time out with the rig. Shot me into the trees, and destroyed the left fender completely. Since then, the body has been dented quite well just about everywhere else. The roof was rusting from the inside which I found out the hard way. I'll let the pics of the body do the explaining.
The start of the body damage:

See what I meant with the roof?

Here you can see the bumper and slider boxes. Also one of my favorite pics from wheeling. The unibody rails and sliders were painted in primer red, they aren't rusty.

What it needs:
The Jeep NEEDS a cage. I was going to build it myself this winter, but am now selling the rig. I LOVE wheeling with no doors, but without doors on an XJ, a cage should almost be required.

The front axle needs some work. Only had 3 wheel drive when I loaded it on the trailer. I think its lock out related.

What it needs to be 'done' (never got around to it):
Cage
Cap/paint rear bumper
Fill the gap between rockers and body
Slider boxes for the rear suspension, or go back to shackles. Also raise the rear ride height an inch or two.
Rear shocks - never got any that were the correct length after raising the axle shock mount up from stock.
Front shocks - the shock mounts I have on there right now are single shear brackets built off of the top of the LCA bracket. I have broken the driver's side one twice. I was planning to buy longer shocks and mount them lower down on the bracket and make them double shear. Also, I have the brackets that converts the gay stud upper shock mount to the standard bushing and bolt style.
Front bumper - right now I have two d-ring mounts coming off the front, with a simple piece of square tube welded between.
Cover the upper link - just a hole in the floor for upper link clearance

That's about it really, this Jeep does not need much. I have wheeled this Jeep quite hard, and put quite a few miles on it out on the trail and it is extremely capable and dependable. I have only broken one thing, and that was a front axle shaft due to spitting a u-joint cap. This Jeep was built with only the best techniques that money could allow. I tried quite hard to not cut corners or do anything half-assed, and only friends who are very knowledgeable with fabrication helped me build it. You will not find anything built 'jank' on this Jeep, it just doesn't look very pretty due to the body. This is a VERY mechanically sound Jeep, and WILL take you places.

Spare parts:
Front hubs, front shafts, bearings, spindles, lockouts, shafts, one rear axle shaft, and probably a bunch of other stuff that I can not think of at the moment.

Right now, I do not have my copy of the title. I sent in the lost title paperwork and am waiting to receive it.

Damn good description, good luck with the sale....even though I disagree with your decision and think you'll regret it.

No it isn't. Not at the entry level. Especially when Stevie's front axle would buy the car we are looking at, and pay entry fees for more than 1 event.

We (my friend/teammate and I) found the car that apparently won the open light class last year (AWD, non turbo) for sale for $6500, so they are out there for reasonable prices all set up ready to race, usually with tons of spare parts. Definitely planning to buy the first car, not build, which is rule #1 it seems when you ask anyone about entering that sport, mainly due to cost.

Cool, good luck. I hope to get into the demo derby circuit next year.

If you go to the one in MO let me know, I'll come down and help out. Best of luck selling the jeep and racing. It's going to get expensive in a hurry.

For sure.
Yeah, it'll get expensive, luckily the initial cost isn't too bad. Fuel and entry fees will not be cheap, nor will be fixing the car when it gets crashed...but thats all part of the game.

You shouldn't sell it but I guess I wish you luck if that's what you really wanna/have to do. I wish I had as nice of suspension as yours has!

James is stealing my life plans! We're racing one VW in rallyx while building one of the others for full stage rally. They say to buy not build, but where is the fun in that... Make sure the car you're buying has everything in date, the safety equipment is the most expensive part of racing. Also, I'd check out that car real good, 6.5k seems kinda low for something that actually won a class. Is that nationally it won or locally? I look forward to seeing you at rally races in the future.

Just so everyone knows, I pissed on the hood of this thing today... not sure if that effects the value of it, but it's worth noting..

Nah, not really. Take a dump in the drivers seat though, that would be a winner.

Yeah, the fun can be in building, but also $$$$$. Not a national class car (the one in question) as far as I know.

If you sell this thing, you should make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to make up for the amount of green you killed on my Powder Hill.

j/k. Good luck, bud.

Edit: side note, this is the only driver I've ever seen that had to winch DOWN a hill.

Powder Hill was a doozy...I can't even begin to imagine how the body would look today if I hadn't taken that 2nd run at it. Oh well.

Winching down hill is when you know you're H4|2DC0|23

^^What he said. I rallied the hell outta the Subaru when I had it and it was a blast.....but there's a reason I still own 2 lifted 4x4s and no rally cars.
